How to Become a Morning Person in 3 days
A phenomenon in circadian biology: Entrainment
If you struggle with waking up early or feel sluggish in the morning, the good news is—your body can be trained to become an early riser. Your circadian rhythm, the internal clock that controls sleep, energy levels, and metabolism, responds to specific triggers like light, movement, and food.
Your body temperature naturally rises in the morning, signaling wakefulness. But you can accelerate this process and feel more alert by following a few simple steps.
Here’s how:
Expose Yourself to Early Morning Light
Morning sunlight is the most powerful reset for your circadian rhythm. It signals your brain’s suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) to increase alertness and regulate hormones like cortisol (for energy) and melatonin (for sleep at night).
Exercise First Thing in the Morning
Moving your body in the morning, even before sunrise, speeds up this biological shift. Your body starts to expect activity at this time, making it easier to wake up naturally.
Eat & Hydrate Early in the Day
Consuming your first meal in the morning (instead of skipping breakfast) reinforces your wakefulness and helps regulate metabolism. Hydration is equally important—drinking water first thing in the morning flushes toxins and rehydrates your system after sleep.
Stick to the Routine
If you force yourself to wake up early and exercise for just 3 days, by day 4, your body will start adjusting on its own. This process, called entrainment, naturally shifts your internal clock to wake up earlier and feel sleepy at the right time (around 10-11 PM).
Ditch the Screens at Night
Once your body starts adapting, the key is not to sabotage your progress. Blue light from your phone delays melatonin production, keeping you wired when you should be winding down. The fix? Put your phone in another room before bed.
Even if you’re a night owl, these small changes will naturally shift your body into becoming a morning person—without an alarm struggle.
